It is not uncommon to hear about celebrity couples marrying and divorcing at alarmingly quick rates. It seems like every week, news of another celebrity split is reported by media outlets, sometimes, just weeks or months after the wedding took place. Recently, however, news of an impending divorce for a powerhouse comedic couple has shocked and perhaps saddened many Texas readers.
Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman have announced that they have separated and are pursuing a divorce. Known for their roles on the television show "Taxi" the couple are said to be splitting after 30 years of marriage. No details have been provided regarding any contemplated divorce.
The couple was married in 1982 and has three grown children together. There are no reports of whether the couple has a prenuptial agreement, or whether either party has made financial demands regarding a divorce. After 30 years of marriage and Hollywood success, the couple has no doubt amassed substantial assets which may be subject to division once the divorce process begins.
Though couples of any net-worth can face challenges during the asset division process, those of a higher net-worth may face an even more complicated divorce negotiations if no prenuptial agreement is involved. One option such a long-standing couple might consider is divorce mediation. Rather than litigating matters, this type of divorce proceeding provides a mechanism for the parties to work together in a supportive environment to achieve a fair result. Whether Rhea and Danny choose this option remains to be seen, but Texas readers may be interested in seeing how the couple is able to come to a settlement agreement after sharing their lives over three decades.
